 Rally Checklist

 To Do Before Rally: 

  • Go through tack trunks with team;  Have required equipment checklist to make sure all items are in drawers
  • Check expiration dates on all medications
  • Fire Extinguisher charged?
  • Trash can, trash can liner and notice board
  • Don’t forget the clock, does it need batteries
  • Current discipline rulebook (check for updates and newsletters)
  • Do you want to use blue saddle and bridle racks?
  • Tents available - we have three
  • Clean horses – no dandruff in mane and tail
  • Clean tack – make sure to clean stress points on leather, wash girths, clean bits

 

Required Equipment - Per Horse/Rider:     with name or pinney #  (You will receive pinney at the rally)

  • Stall card

  • 5 gallon water bucket to hang on trailer

  • 10 Gallons of water per horse, at least

  •  Double end snaps for buckets… (at least 2)

  •  Breakaway halter or leather halter

  •  Cotton lead rope

  •  Hay net with hay 

  • Muck Bucket, pitch fork, rake or broom

  •  Stall card (can be printed off of USPC website)

  •  Grooming Kit – labeled with riders pinney #

  •             Hoof pick

  •             Rub rag

  •             Dandy brush

  •             Body brush

  •             2 sponges – 1 marked face, 1 marked dock OR baby wipes

  •             Curry comb (rubber or plastic) no jelly ones

  •             Mane comb (optional)

  •             Body sponge

  •             Wash bucket (marked wash only)

  •             Sweat scraper

  •  Pony club pin

  •  Belt

  •  Stock pin (plain, with nothing on it)

  •  Hairnet or hair in braids    NO HAIRBOWS WITH METAL CLIPS 

  •  Show clothes – jacket, shirt, jodhpurs, garter straps, and foot straps if paddock boots are worn or breeches with tall boots

  •  NO JEWLERY!!!  Only medical bracelets, watches, and one pair of stud earrings in ears

  •  Diapers & tape – to cover sharp edges of trailer 

  •  Bailing twine (not the orange poly kind, but the green/tan kind)

  •  Chair to sit on

  •  Drinks and  food

  •  Clothes to change into after you are finished riding. (If you want) You can wear shorts, but NO tank tops. You must wear   appropriate footwear.

 

 Extra Equipment  (per each team)– must be inspection clean!!!   Also, must fit ALL animals on team

 (To be divided up amongst team members)    LABELED IBHPC EXTRA EQUIP

  •  Girth

  •  Stirrup leathers and irons

  •  Complete bridle

  •  Halter

  •  2 extra leadropes, 1 with chain, 1 without

 HORSE MANAGEMENT TIPS 

  • Keep manure picked up
  • Make sure haynets are at correct height
  • Keep water buckets full and free of hay
  • Keep area clean and free of trash
  • No cell phones!
  • If you use a piece of  extra equipment, leave a note on rack

TO DO BEFORE INSPECTION:  YOU GO TO INSPECTION READY TO RIDE 

  • Pinney tied with pony club pin on
  • Horses feet picked out
  • Manes and tails brushed
  • Nose, eyes and dock wiped
  • No visible dirt
  • Girth tightened
  • Are your spurs on the correct way?
  • If you have peacock stirrups, are they on the correct way?

 RESPONSIBILITES OF A STABLE MANAGER 

  • Keep track of turnout and ride times
  • Assist team throughout the day
  • Go to inspection with each team member
  • Know where all club equipment is located
  • Be at trailer area when horse management comes through
  • YOUR STABLE MANAGER IS THERE TO HELP YOU; NOT DO ALL OF YOUR WORK FOR YOU!!

 RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CAPTAIN 

  • Make sure all team members have stall card
  • Arrange to go through tack trunks
  • Pick up packets upon arrival
  • Inquiries during the rally
  • Sign final score sheets at end of day
